Yesterday, Deadline reported that Sony Pictures had closed a deal for an untitled love story to be directed by Cameron Crowe and set to star Emma Stone. Scott Rudin is producing and the male lead hasn’t been set yet for the two-hander.
Other details were scarce, but Web speculation is that this could be a Crowe script coming back to life after a handful of years. According to The Playlist, a tweet from Variety says the project could be “Deep Tiki,” a script Crowe was to have directed in 2008, and then 2009. It was with Reese Witherspoon and Ben Stiller. The Playlist says the plot involved a military contractor who’s presumed dead after an incident in Afghanistan. Having actually survived, he’s ultimately assigned to a top-secret military satellite launch in Hawaii, and sets out with an uptight military liaison to get a blessing from local spiritual leaders, who believe a prophecy is about to come to pass.
Crowe’s last film was 2011′s critical and niche commercial success “We Bought A Zoo.”
