Details: Reboot of the franchise that began with the film “The Mummy” (USA/1932) directed by Karl Freund and starring Boris Karloff.
SSN Insight: Universal has hired Hunger Games writer Billy Ray to work on a new version of the film different from what writer Jon Spaihts did in the past.  They will decide later which script to use or if to potentially combine them.

The Ends of the Earth
Logline: An oil baron in 1920s Oklahoma adopts a young girl whom he later has an affair with and marries, which brings down his dynasty while she fights for workers’ rights.

The Fault in Our Stars
Logline: A teenage girl stricken with cancer falls for a boy in her support group and the two form a bond as they deal with their illnesses.

SSN Insight: The studio finds its director by hiring indie filmmaker Josh Boone in what will be his sophomore effort to tackle the best-selling and critically claimed adaptation.

SSN Insight: This is the second sale in the past year for author Patrick Lee in what ended up as a bidding war between studios.

Constantine
Logline: Roman emperor Constantine moves the capital from Rome to Constantinople while a power struggle ensues.

SSN Insight: Ex baseball player Mike Piazza steps into the role of film producer for the first time by teaming up with Gladiator writer David Franzoni who mines similar territory with this big scale project.

Arclight
Logline: A teenage girl with amnesia appears in an outpost protected from monsters, but when the monsters come after her, the girl realizes she has the secret that can help the rest of humanity.

SSN Insight: Brian Grazer continues to expand their slate of projects by venturing into the Young Adult genre from best-selling author McQuein.  Universal follows up from their Young Adult purchase last week of Julia Kagawa’s untitled novel.

Birth of the Dragon
Logline: In 1965, Bruce Lee fights a fellow martial artist in a memorable match, but the two end up taking on the rising Chinese Triads.
