Julianna Margulies is being sued by her former manager D/F Management which alleges the actress owes the firm commissions from her work on “The Good Wife” and in commercials and for L’Oreal and is seeking $420,000. The suit also contends the actress should continue to pay D/F 10% of what she makes on shows and for product deals that were signed while they were her representatives.
The suit says that Steve Dontanville, a D/F partner and a former ICM agent, “carefully helped take Margulies from a promising young newcomer to an internationally-renowned television star who earned millions of dollars from her work on the television show ‘ER’ and other projects” while at ICM.
When he left ICM, the suit suggests Margulies’ career hit a bump and only turned around when she reunited with him in 2009 at D/F. The other principal of D/F is Frank Frattaroli.
After finding success with “The Good Wife,” “Margulies began pondering ways to save money and cut back on her admittedly-stellar representation,” the suit says. On April 29, 2011, she allegedly terminated her management agreement with D/F.
Under standards and practices, agencies and managers are entitled to continue to receive commissions on work they procured for a client, even after the client has left them. Such suits as the one filed against Margulies are not uncommon in Hollywood, Deadline notes.
